UK tightens lockdown rules, imposes hefty fines Posted by Anita Froneman on 28 September 2020 The United Kingdom is experiencing a spike in confirmed cases of COVID-19 and authorities are re-imposing strict lockdown rules for certain areas. Residents in most parts of England, Northern Ireland and Wales are no longer allowed to have social gatherings at their homes or in public with people from different households, and non-social gatherings are limited to six people, according to The Telegraph. Restaurants, pubs, and cinemas are required to close between 10pm and 5am. The United Kingdom has seen a surge in the COVID-19 infection rate recently. The following activities are also not allowed to operate: Casinos Skating rinks Bowling alleys Indoor play areas, including soft play areas Exhibition centres and conference halls Close contact services, which are any treatments on the face such as eyebrow threading or make-up application Wedding receptions and celebrations for more than 15 people According to The Sun, disregarding the rules can result in a fine of £200 (about R4,400), and breaking self-isolation when diagnosed with the virus is punishable by up to £10,000 (about R220,000). The UK has a total of 440, 692 confirmed coronavirus cases and 42,005 deaths as of September 28.
