Thai national park will post litter back to offenders

Posted on 18 September 2020

Authorities from the Khao Yai National Park have come up with a clever way to prevent visitors from littering.

Rubbish that is gathered from the park will be mailed back to those who littered. Visitors who are caught littering will be registered with local police, according to the BBC.

Upon arrival, visitors will have to register their home address, making the task of sending back the rubbish very easy.

Environment Minister Varawut Silpa-archa shared an image to his Facebook page which shows a cardboard box filled with trash along with a letter that reads; ‘You forgot these things at Khao Yai National Park’.

Park authorities say that the rubbish could pose a threat to the local wildlife, as they may mistake the litter for food. Those caught littering or violating park rules could face a fine of up to R52,000 (100,000 baht) according to The Thaiger.
