Japan launches earthquake-proof bullet train Posted by Anita Froneman on 3 July 2020 Japan has launched a new bullet train that is incredibly fast, but also safe. The N700S can reach 360km per hour, making it one of the fastest trains in the world, according to CNN. It is also sturdy enough to operate during an earthquake, and will bring all passengers to safety on a backup battery system, should disaster strike. The train will run on the Tokaido Shinkansen line, linking Tokyo Station and Osaka, as well as on the Sanyo Shinkansen Line that extends to Hakata Station in Kyushu, reports Kyodo News. The active suspension system will ensure an ultra-smooth ride. It also operates with a lithium-ion battery self-propulsion system. Japan’s new N700S – S stands for “supreme” is know as the fastest bullet train travels at 360 kilometers per hour.
