Marriott International to close three of its hotels in SA Posted on 20 June 2020 The global hotel group Marriott International announced on Friday June 19, that it will be shutting down three of its locations including the Mount Grace Country House & Spa in Magaliesburg, due to the impact COVID-19 has had the hospitality sector, according to Times Live. According to the statement issued on June 19, “These are indeed challenging times and our thoughts are with the associates affected by this decision across the three properties. We value their hard work and dedication over the years and thank them for their service.” Along with Mount Grace Country House & Spa in Magaliesburg, the Protea Hotel by Marriott Hazyview and the Protea Hotel by Marriott Durban Edward have permanently closed. As for the employees who worked at these facilities, the hotel group has ensured that every associate will have access to the provident fund as soon as it’s made available. The properties themselves are owned by the JSE-listed Hospitality Property Fund. JSE has since confirmed that it won’t be selling the land, according to Times Live. Instead, JSE Hospitality CEO Mara de Lima said on Friday her group will be looking to find a new potential hotel chain to take over the properties once the hospitality sector begins to recover.
