Parks, game reserves remain closed on Level 3

The nationwide lockdown is approaching alert Level 3, set to commence Monday, 1 June. While the economy is slowly starting to reopen, tourism and travel related businesses are still not allowed to operate due to safety risks, pushing the industry further towards a downward spiral.

Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, released the regulations set out in the Disaster Management Act applicable to Level 3.

– All inter-provincial travel remains prohibited, except for certain instances such as funerals or essential work.

– Restaurants and bars remain closed, however take-away food purchases are allowed as well as alcohol for home consumption.

– All hotels, lodges and resorts remain closed too, except for the accommodation of persons performing work permitted under Level 3, or to be used as quarantine sites.

– Beaches and public parks remain closed. The regulations also state that while all tourist attractions remain closed, private, self-drive excursions are permitted.

In a briefing, President Ramaphosa said on Sunday, 24 May that domestic air travel for work purposes will be permitted under certain regulations and on certain dates, but airlines are still waiting on further information.
