Zimbabwe hotels to reopen as luxury quarantine sites Posted by Adrian Brown on 26 May 2020 As in many other countries, the tourism industry in Zimbabwe has taken a hard knock due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, businesses in the hospitality industry such as hotels and lodges will be allowed to function as luxury quarantine locations. Zimbabwean Health Minister Obadiah Moyo announced the allowance on Sunday, 24 May. A close eye will be kept on customers who take up the offer, according to Times Live. Those staying in the quarantine facility will be monitored and will receive a COVID-19 test every 8 days. The participating establishments have been assessed and screened by the ministry of health and childcare. The ministry of tourism was also involved in the process. The availability of quarantine locations have been lessening, since schools used for quarantining will soon be reopened, according to Zimbabwe Voice. This factor played a large role in the recently announced decision. Six hotels have been approved for the function of quarantining, including the four-star Bronte Hotel in Harare and the five-star Phezulu Lodge near Victoria Falls. On Sunday, when the announcement was made, Zimbabwe had 56 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including 25 recoveries and 4 deaths.
