Western Cape initiative supports local tour guides Posted on 13 May 2020 Many are craving the outdoors and seeking an escape during the lockdown period. We’re all dreaming of our ‘One Day’ when we can explore again. To help you do just that, the Western Cape Government, Wesgro the Western Cape’s Official Tourism, and Film Agency have launched a new ‘One Day in the Western Cape’ campaign to support the tourism industry. The initiative will showcase one of the world’s most beautiful locations virtually, via an immersive experience from your couch! In doing so, it will support local tour guides and help maintain business continuity in the severely hit tourism sector. To support local guides, you can join 12 virtual tours of some of the Western Cape’s most iconic areas. Sign up to a step-by-step bokkoms cooking class (definitely beats banana bread!) or explore cave paintings in the Cederberg. This is a creative way to show support and appreciation for them during this unprecedented period, while physical travel is on pause. The guides will conduct the tours from their homes via various streaming platforms, with accompanying visuals to help bring the Western Cape locations to life. The 12 virtual tours combine photography and video to highlight the magic of six acclaimed areas within the region – the Cape West Coast, Cape Overberg, Cape Town, Cape Winelands, Garden Route & Klein Karoo and Cape Karoo. Best of all, at the end of the virtual tour, viewers will have the chance to show their appreciation to the guides via SnapScan. As part of the campaign, you can download inspiring Zoom backgrounds of the Western Cape hotspots like Boulders Beach. There will also be a relaxing podcast series featuring locals telling stories of the locations they love. To participate in Cape Town and the Western Cape’s ‘One Day’ campaign and take part in a tour, follow @Discoverctwc on social media or mail [email protected] for more information. Enjoy the first virtual day out in the new ‘One Day in the Western Cape’ campaign right from home. Videos will be posted weekly on Facebook and YouTube.
