Carnival Cruises see 600% increase in bookings Posted by Anita Froneman on 12 May 2020 Avid cruisers are eager to get back on the water, it seems, as the Carnival Cruise Line experienced a surge in bookings after announcing they will being operating again on 1 August, 2020. Shortly after the announcement, cruise bookings skyrocketed and the company saw a 600% increase according to Cruise Planners, an American Express travel franchise. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has placed a ban on sea faring until 24 July, 2020. The sharp increase in bookings could be attributed to very affordable rates being offered by the company, which might be the case with many tour operators once they resume. It could be an indication, however that there is hope for the cruising industry yet. In South Africa, no tourism activities are allowed either but we might be able to hop onboard our favourite ships ahead of the Americans. MSC cruises plans to resume operations from 10 July, 2020. Guests who booked cruises up until 30 September will be covered under the ‘Flexible Cruise Programme.’ This allows guests to reschedule their cruise to a future departure date through to 31 December 2021 at no additional cost. The rescheduled cruise may be on any ship with any itinerary in the MSC Cruises fleet.
