Dinosaur centre coming to Golden Gate National Park Posted on 15 April 2020 Tags:Golden Gate Highlands National Park, SANParks The new interpretation centre at Glen Reenen in Golden Gate Highlands National Park, opened last November, gives a taste of the bigger centre being built that will tell the story of the area’s dinosaur days. Since the 1970s, several clutches of fossilised eggs have been found in the park – the latest being 10 nests of 34 eggs each in 2012. The remains of a new species of vegetarian dinosaur, Ledumahadi Mafube, were also unearthed nearby. For now, the exhibits at Glen Reenen include bones and fossils, plus details about the birds, geology, fauna, vegetation, history and other interesting aspects of the park. It took more than two years to gather all the material, specimens and artwork, a project undertaken by the SANParks Honorary Rangers. The full-scale dinosaur centre, which should open in September this year (delays due to the COVID19 lockdown may push this date out) will feature a 3D-printed egg and a replica of a nest, and offer a ‘dinosaur bush safari’. sanparks.org Also read: 8 of the world’s best dinosaur museums Related Posts 7 countries that celebrate Easter differently to South Africa 2 April 2023 Here's how some nations are observing the Easter holiday in colourful, epic and sometimes head-scratchingly... read more The highs and lows of drug tourism 10 February 2023 There has been a psychedelic renaissance for some time and unless you've been living under... read more Drakensberg wanderings 27 October 2022 There are few things that feed the soul quite like time in the Drakensberg Mountains.... read more PREV ARTICLE NEXT ARTICLE
