Foreigner repatriations take off today Posted by Anita Froneman on 3 April 2020 Foreign nationals in South Africa who wish to return to their home countries will be repatriated by South African Airways (SAA) from today , Friday 3 April. Chartered flights from Cape Town and Johannesburg will fly German nationals to Munich and Frankfurt following requests from the German government. Read: SAA to resume international flights for evacuations SAA spokesperson Tlali Tlali confirmed that the airline had received various requests from several governments, including Germany and Belgium, which were concerned about their citizens that were stuck in South Africa because of the lockdown. ‘The costs will be borne by the respective customers, the individual governments will handle the costs for the projects,’ Tlali said on eNCA on Thursday. Dirco Minister Naledi Pandor said that the government was still working on a plan to get South African nationals stranded abroad back home, but that priority would be given to those in need and who lacked financial support.
