Police dye blue lagoon black to ward off influencers

Posted on 30 March 2020

The global pandemic that is COVID-19 has lead a number of countries around the world to enforce nationwide lockdowns. As you can imagine, Instagram influencers in particular haven’t taken too kindly to the lockdown’s restrictions to their movement.

This is evident to see at the disused quarry at Harpur Hill, near Buxton in England. Groups of people were reportedly meeting up at the scenic quarry, presumably to snap the perfect Instagram picture, despite the country’s recently enforced nationwide lockdown.

Rather than having the police waste valuable time constantly patrolling the area, the UK forces came up with a much easier solution – making the lagoon appear far less appealing by dying the water black.

The local police department announced its clever strategy in a Facebook post. ‘Yesterday we received reports that people were congregating at the ‘Blue Lagoon’ in Harpur Hill, Buxton. No doubt this is due to the picturesque location and the lovely weather (for once!) in Buxton. With this in mind, we have attended the location this morning and used water dye to make the water look less appealing.’

For those wondering whether the dye would have a detrimental effect on the water, worry not. The tropical blue water in the quarry may seem perfect for a swim, but this is certainly not advisable. The deep blue colour of the water is a result of its toxicity. As a matter of fact, the water has a pH level of 11.3, closely matching that of bleach.
