Holidaymakers ignore KZN beach closures

The KwaDukuza municipality in KwaZulu-Natal banned swimming at public beaches across the north coast and closed all public pools as a means to combat the spread of the coronavirus. Many residents and visitors, however, completely disregarded these rules ahead of the nationwide lockdown, as they flocked in their hundreds to bathe on the beach, according to The Citizen.

A resident reportedly told the North Coast Courier that it was not that the holidaymakers were not aware of the rules.

‘They said police should worry about the malls and other areas as the sea will wash away the virus, which is not true. They asked to be left alone because they were enjoying their holiday,’ he said.

All beaches across the country are now off limits as we are officially in lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
