Italian nonna offers virtual pasta-making classes Posted on 25 March 2020 An Italian nonna is offering up a delicious way to keep yourself busy during lockdowns and self-isolation taking place across the globe. For just $50 (about R870), you will have access to an Italian pasta-making course through Airbnb Experience. ‘Handmade pasta with grandma’ is one way to up your pasta skills, to nourish your family and to keep yourself sane over the next three weeks. The experience has gone virtual for the first time ever. It has been rated one of Airbnb’s top once-in-a-lifetime experiences. Over the two hour course, you will be taught how to make three different types of pasta from scratch. You will also learn how to make bruschetta all from a woman who has spent her life making pasta. A peek into the rustic Italian kitchen that was once a winepress, is a bonus. Classes with grandma are only available on weekends, but one of her granddaughters, Chiara Nicolanti, hosts weekday classes. Speaking to Matador Network, Nicolanti said: ‘The first time trying to let her understand that people could see her and hear her was like, the craziest thing. It was supposed to be an hour class, and it lasted two hours, and people were laughing all the time. She never stops, she never waits for me, so it was really crazy, but I think this is what people want. They want an Italian grandma making a mess with them for an hour.’ As part of the deal, you will receive translated notes from Nonna Nerina in preparation for the class. This will include wine pairings. The recipes have been in their family for generations. The recipe schedule is as follows: Wednesday 10am PST / 1pm EST Cooking with Chiara Ravioli with Butter Sage Sauce (Vegetarian) Thursday 10am PST /1pm EST Cooking with Chiara Gnocchi with Pesto (Vegetarian) Friday 10am PST /1pm EST Cooking with Chiara Lasagne Saturday 10am PST /1pm EST Cooking with Nonna Nerina Fettuccine with Tomato Sauce (Vegetarian) Sunday 10am PST /1pm EST Cooking with Nonna Nerina Cannelloni To access Nonna’s live cooking class, all you have to do is register.
