Patron leaves $9,400 tip amid coronavirus shutdown Posted on 23 March 2020 With many parts of the world on lockdown amid the coronavirus outbreak, a generous patron in America tipped waitstaff in a Huston restaurant $9,400 or R166,880. Millions of people around the world are faced with uncertainty. This is not only in regards to their health but with income as well. By relying on hourly wages, people have been left jobless and unable to provide for themselves and their families. In America, bars and nightclubs were forced to shut down. Restaurants and waitstaff are also at the frontline of this uncertainty. An anonymous couple visited a restaurant called Irma’s Southwest and left a generous tip to help the owners pay their staff for the next few weeks. Speaking to CNN, Louis Galvan the owner of the restaurant said: ‘We didn’t expect it, to be honest with you. They left a gratuity for the entire kitchen and service staff, which is unexpected. ‘They were amazed that a client would care enough about them to leave that amount to help them get through this tough time.’ A note on the receipt read: ‘Hold tip to pay your guys over the next few weeks.’ With all the uncertainty, Galvan said he does not know how long it will be until the restaurant can resume operations again.
