Inside the tallest building in Africa

The Leonardo in Sandton, Johannesburg stands 234-metres tall and since its recent completion, it holds the record for the tallest building on the African continent.

This 55-storey skyscraper officially opened on 1 March and is home to a mix of luxury residential units, office spaces and recreational activities including a gym, spa and restaurants.

Living or visiting the Leonardo won’t come cheap, though. According to The South African, the Leonardo Suite, which measures about 3,000 square metres, covers three storeys and boasts an asking price for of about R250 million. It has’t sold yet.

The hotel section is not much cheaper, coming in hot at R7,860 per night for 2 guests for the cheapest room on booking.com. It features air-conditioned rooms with satellite flat-screen TVs, 24-hour front desk and room service, free WiFi, and an outdoor pool and sun terrace. Every room has a wardrobe and an a-la carte breakfast is included.
