You can spend the night in Lucy the Elephant on Airbnb Posted by Anita Froneman on 28 February 2020 Lucy the Elephant is a national landmark in New Jersey built in 1881 and also the oldest surviving example of zoomorphic architecture on Earth, according to Richard Helfant, director of the Save Lucy Committee. She’s not just there to look pretty, though. Lucy has now also been listed on Airbnb and will be open to visitors from 17 March for $138 (R2,150) a night according to The New York Times. ‘Guests will be transported back in time with a stay inside Lucy the Elephant, one of the last standing pieces of roadside Americana,’ Airbnb said in a statement. You heard that right… for three nights only (March 17th, 18th & 19th), Lucy the Elephant will host three lucky guests each for a one-night stay in our favorite elephant. Lucy’s interior has been modeled after and decorated in the Victorian-era style of the early 20th century to resemble how it could have looked when she briefly served as summer vacation home in 1902. If you are interested in booking one of these unique stays INSIDE Lucy the Elephant, visit Airbnb.com/Lucy on March 5th and book Lucy for $138– the number of years she’s been gracing our NJ shore. #lucytheelephant #airbnb #onlyonairbnb #elephantbuilding #nationalhistoriclandmark #roadsideattraction #margatenj #margatehasmore #weirdnj #visitnj #doac #njhistorictrust #njhistoricalcommission #theonlyelephantintheroom A post shared by Lucy the Elephant (@lucytheelephant) on Feb 27, 2020 at 1:10pm PST Built by James Lafferty to lure buyers to what was, in the late 1880s, a largely undeveloped tract of land, she has withstood the test of time and survived almost everything from hurricanes to lightning strikes. She stands a proud 6 storeys tall (almost 20 metres) and guests can expect to stay quite comfortably as she is kitted out in luxury and offers stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean and the Atlantic City skyline.
