The world’s 20 safest airlines for 2020 Posted on 6 January 2020 Tags:Australia, Qantas Airline safety and product rating website, AirlineRatings.com, has announced the ‘Top Twenty Safest Airlines 2020,’ selected from the 405 airlines that it monitors, from across the world. The website’s editor-in-chief, Geoffrey Thomas, says that these airlines stand out within the industry and ‘are at the forefront of safety, innovation, and launching of new aircraft.’ Australia’s Qantas once again holds the top spot for safety. From 2014 to 2017 it held the title of the world’s safest airline and in 2018, AirlineRatings stated that it couldn’t pick a single ‘winner’ so the top 20 safest airlines were listed alphabetically. ‘Australia’s Qantas has been recognized by the British Advertising Standards Association in a test case as the world’s most experienced airline,’ said Thomas. Virgin Australia 11. Hawaiian Airlines 12. Virgin Atlantic Airlines 13. TAP Portugal 14. SAS 15. Royal Jordanian 16. Swiss 17. Finnair 18. Lufthansa 19. Aer Lingus 20. KLM According to CNN, the rankings look at government and aviation body audits, serious incident and crash records, the age of the fleet, pilot training and culture and the financial position of the airline. ‘All airlines have incidents every day, and many are aircraft or engine manufacture issues, not airline operational problems. And it is the way the flight crew handles incidents that determines a good airline from an unsafe one. So just lumping all incidents together is very misleading. Our top 20 safest airlines 2020 are always at the forefront of safety innovation, operational excellence and the launching of new more advanced aircraft like the Airbus A350 and Boeing 787,’ said Thomas.
