SA man rescued from going overboard

A South African man was rescued after allegedly jumping overboard on an MSC Orchestra cruise ship on New Year’s Eve. The cruise was travelling between Madagascar and Mauritius when the incident occurred.

According to EWN, the cruise liner company confirmed the man had jumped overboard at around 4 am on Tuesday, 31 December 2019.

Ross Volk, managing director of MSC, said that the man’s injuries were minor and that the cruise was able to continue as per the schedule. “Our ship’s security protocols were activated immediately, and the ship command responded promptly and adequately,” said Volk to EWN.

A search-and-rescue operation found the man in an hour and brought him back on board the ship. He was taken to the ship’s medical centre immediately. Volk confirmed that the man’s health is being monitored and that his family have been offered support.
