Dubai named one of the world’s top cities for travellers in 2020 Posted on 22 October 2019 Tags:dubai, souks Dubai has been named one of the world’s best cities for travellers to visit in 2020 by Lonely Planet. ‘Dubai is famed for its drive to seek out new world records, which will enthral visitors,’ said Lonely Planet’s VP of Experience Tom Hall, commenting on the city that has received the accolade in the Best in Travel 2020 list. ‘The food is wonderful, and the shopping and nightlife are world-class. Plus, in the run-up to Expo 2020, Dubai has been expanding its portfolio of attractions, which now include the giant Ain Dubai Ferris wheel, the Al Shindagha Museum and the Jameel Arts Centre.’ Upcoming Attractions Dubai will host Expo 2020, the first World Expo in the Middle East, and is preparing to welcome 25 million visitors between 20 October 2020 and 10 April 2021. The Museum of the Future is a unique incubator that explores the future of science, technology and innovation – a concept embodied by the stainless-steel torus structure adorned with Arabic calligraphy. Another highlight is the world’s tallest observation wheel, Ain Dubai, which stands over 250m tall on Bluewaters Island. It promises breathtaking views of the city’s beautiful coastline and famous landmarks such as the Burj Al Arab, Palm Jumeirah and Burj Khalifa. Icons of Dubai The world’s tallest tower, the Burj Khalifa, needs little introduction. Standing at over 828m tall with 162 floors, it’s an unmissable feature of the city’s skyline. It is connected to The Dubai Mall, an enthralling hub for shopping, entertainment and leisure. Madinat Jumeirah is inspired by an Arabian citadel, with three boutique hotels, restaurants and shops connected by a man-made river that you can cross via traditional abras (boats). Arts, Culture and Heritage Meeting the increasing demand for cultural experiences, Al Seef is the latest development in Dubai’s heritage district located near the iconic Dubai Creek. Dubai’s history as a fishing village comes to life with a state-of-the-art multimedia experience at the Al Shindagha Museum, and a collection of items dating as far back as 3,000 BCE at Dubai Museum located within one of the city’s oldest structures in the Al Fahidi Fort.
