Walk, wine and dine with Glamtrails Posted on 6 September 2019 Tags:Hemel-en-aarde, hiking, wine, wine tasting Take in the beauty of the Hemel en Aarde Valley on foot, stopping off to enjoy the region’s top wines with Glamtrails. This new tourism offering combines guided walks through fynbos, vineyards and farmland with food and wine pairings and meals at some of the wine farms in the area. With routes ranging from a short stroll to an uphill hike, there’s an option for every fitness level. Each route has been researched and walked by accredited mountain guide Tim Lundy, along with his wife Gillian. “We are privileged to have been invited to develop our five walking tours in this very special valley, best known for its Chardonnay and Pinot Noir producing wine farms,” says Lundy. The idea for Glamtrails came about through conversation with the late Elzanne Newton Johnson from Newton Johnson Family Vineyards, who loved Hemel en Aarde and believed that others should have the opportunity to enjoy its vistas, fauna and flora. “We are extremely fortunate our natural beauty is immense and Glamtrails is one of the best ways to enjoy this,” says Bevan Newton Johnson, Managing Director of Newton Johnson Family Vineyards, one of the participating wine farms. Tim and Gillian’s longterm vision is to create a multi-day walking experience where guests immerse themselves for three, four or five days without having to leave the Valley.
