Paris introduces environmental tourist measures Posted on 5 July 2019 Tags:Over-tourism, Paris Paris’s deputy mayor Emmanuel Gregoire said the city’s town hall is planning to limit tourist bus traffic as a measure to curb over-crowding. According to CNN, Gregoire said the buses have been causing ‘total anarchy’ and ‘are no longer welcome in the very heart of the city.’ There are also plans to build parking areas outside the City of Love. Gregoire told CNN, ‘tourists can do what everyone else does and use public transport or switch to environmentally-friendly mobility options.’ The French capital is on a mission to become a more environmentally-conscious city. Read: Pedestrian garden planned for Eiffel Tower. By reducing tourist buses in the city, Paris hopes to reduce overcrowding and the issues that come with it. Gregoire says that while group tours are effective for older tourists, tour guides must adapt to the needs of the city and switch to cycling or walking tours.
