The incident, which occurred on on Tuesday 25 June, took place just a week after an abandoned foetus was found in the water system of a FlySafair airplane bound for Durban. According to IOL, a female flight attendant noticed that the passenger was looking unwell. She proceeded to seat him near the plane door and went to consult with the captain as to whether the man was fit to fly. Head of Sales and Distribution of FlySafair, Kirby Gordon, said, ‘[the flight attendant] had just taken two steps when he collapsed. ‘The flight attendants tried to resuscitate the man, but were unable to save his life. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those connected to him and with those who witnessed this tragic event. We would also like to say thank you to the other passengers for their patience.’ According to Gordon, flight attendants are trained in safety procedures and operate at the level of first responders.
