Sleep in a rainforest treehouse at this eco resort Posted on 29 May 2019 Tags:eco-friendly, rainforest, resort, seed pods, Singapore A new eco resort in the works in northern Singapore with seed-pod-shaped treehouse lodgings will teach guests about environmentally-conscious practices and overnighting. The resort can be found in Mandai, a designated wildlife planning area in Singapore’s North Region. Planned to be completed by 2023, the resort will allow guests to foster an intimate relationship with nature. The relaxing, peaceful natural surroundings will leave guests feeling revived after their stay. The resort will be built on a plot of land expanding 4.6 hectares of lush green rainforest. At the moment, the Singapore Zoo shares a part of this acreage, using it for back-of-house zoo operations. Once completed, the eco resort will be able to host guests in 24 elevated treehouses shaped like seed pods. Guests will also undergo a ‘conscious stay’ educational programme to elevate their awareness of sustainable practice, and to understand how and why the lodge operates this way. Mandai Park Holdings in partnership with WOW Architects, a design consultancy in Singapore and the UK, will be responsible for the resort’s construction and design. ‘Our building and its systems adopt a biophilic attitude by blending into nature and becoming part of it, while creating an engaging and comfortable environment for the guests,’ said Wong Chiu Man, Managing Director of WOW Architects. ‘The resort was designed with the native flora and fauna as inspiration, and the architecture and interior design will showcase the biodiversity of Mandai for guests to appreciate and learn from. When completed, the building and the landscape will become a holistic, immersive experience.’ Plans are in the pipeline for a bird sanctuary to be built in Mandai soon, too.
