The battery-powered submarine, scUber, will take two passengers and a pilot 30m below the surface to see this marvel up close. They will have 180-degree views throughout the hour-long trip.

The fare of over R40,000 for two riders includes an Uber pickup and drop off from your location, a helicopter ride to the submarine’s departure point and an hour-long ride in the scUber submarine.

Riders in Gladstone, Cairns, Port Douglas and Palm Cove can request the sub directly through the app from 27 May to 18 June. Yes, you do set your destination as the Great Barrier Reef.

There are only 20 rides available over the 4 weeks that this project is running. It is booked on a first-come first-serve basis at 7:30AM on the day of the trip.

Unfortunately, the chance to win a scUber ride is only available to those living in the USA, Canada, the UK, France, New Zealand and Australia.

Uber has teamed up with Queensland Tourism Board to allow tourists and locals to see the world’s largest reef system. Over 2-million visitors flock to visit it each year.

Uber will donate the money made through this project to Citizen of the Great Barrier Reef, an organization using tech and data to protect and conserve reefs around the world.

The submarine has no negative impact on the reef as it uses established pathways designated for tourism operators which do not come too close to the coral.
