Hermanus named best whale watching spot in the world Posted by Adrian Brown on 2 May 2019 The quaint and picturesque seaside town of Hermanus has been named the top spot in the world for whale-watching in the Telegraph’s 10 of the world’s best whale-watching holidays for 2019. With festivities like the Hermanus Whale Festival it comes as no surprise that the local destination has been hailed the best in the world. The international publication described the town as “a small fishing village”, noting the migration of the Southern Right whale as a must-see event. “Heading out to sea isn’t everyone’s cup of tea- and you don’t have too if you go to the small fishing village of Hermanus, overlooking the Atlantic two hours east of Cape Town. Southern right whales come to calf and mate off this coast between June and November, performing their acrobatics incredibly close to the shore. Tailor-made specialist Turquoise Holidays includes a visit to Hermanus on its 10-day South Africa itinerary,” the story reads. These majestic and gargantuan sized marine mammals travel to the coastal region of Hermanus, birthing and caring for their new born calves.
