Dubai Airport brings in DJs to entertain travellers

Posted on 8 April 2019

Dubai International Airport’s own DJs spun the decks for travellers for the first time this past weekend. The new project is part of the airport’s mission to transform the way passengers experience the terminals.

The airport has hired Dubai-based DJ duo Hollaphonic to dream up the DJ schedule which will entertain the roughly 250,000 passengers who pass through the terminals each day.

The stage and lineup will be different each month and will include local and international acts, both world-famous and rising stars.

‘Our customers are well-travelled, global citizens and expect more… Live performances by incredible singers from around the world that make you stop and take a moment, a DJ when you least expect – these are moments people will remember and share with their family and friends,’ says Matthew Horobin, the director of brand at Dubai International Airports.

This is not the first time that the airport has brought free live music to their passengers. In 2015, they launched their concert series, musicDXB, which brought international stars to a stage in the airport.

Dubai Airport hopes to entice musicians travelling through it to add a DXB concert to their schedule and have the chance to perform in front of a global audience.

‘Right now, an average of one in five people are walking around the airport with headphones on, listening to music that comforts and soothes, motivates and inspires and sparks joy. You get those same feelings while travelling, so partnering with DXB seemed as natural as Mariah hitting a high note,’ says one member of Hollaphonic, Olly Wood.

In addition, The airport also boasts one of the world’s biggest duty-free shopping centres as well as a health club with a swimming pool, sauna and a gym. It also has SnoozeCube private suites, each furnished with a full-sized bed and equipped with a TV and fast internet, giving travellers an ideal place to relax.
