Vienna has world’s best quality of life

Austrian capital Vienna has just been named the world’s most liveable city for the 10th time.

The City is not only home to legendary composers such as Mozart and Beethoven but also ensures that its residents are some of the happiest in the world.

Tech company Mercer, creates an annual Quality of Living Survey which ranks the most livable cities in the world based on their ‘attractiveness’. Over 45 cities around the world are evaluated, with the final list comprising of 231 in which Austria came out top again. Among the top 20, it is dominated by mostly European cities, with Zurich in second and Auckland, Munich and Vancouver coming joint third.

Sixth was Düsseldorf with Frankfurt, Copenhagen, Geneva and Basel following. The ranking shows that the Germanic region dominated the ranking.

Port Louis, the capital of Mauritius ranked 83rd but was the city with the best quality of living in Africa as well as he safest (ranked at 59th position)

Durban has the best quality of living in South Africa, ranking 88th in the world with Cape Town and Johannesburg taking 95th and 96th position.

Mercer explains on its website that it basis its ranking on several factors which is analyzed by a panel of judges.

‘Strong, on-the-ground capabilities are integral to the global operations of most international businesses and are in large part driven by the personal and professional wellbeing of the individuals that companies place in those locations,’ said Nicol Mullins, Principal Leader of Career Business at Mercer.
