Museum of the Dog opens in New York Posted on 11 March 2019 Tags:American Kennel Club, art, dog museum, new york Museum of the Dog, from the American Kennel Association, recently opened a museum in New York dedicated entirely to man’s best friend to celebrate the human-canine relationship. Museum of the Dog exhibits oil canvas paintings of famous or notable dogs sitting regal, playing or by the side of their favourite humans. Apart from paintings and artworks about dogs, the museum also functions as an interactive learning space that educates its visitors about the history and anatomy of our furry, tail-wagging friends. ‘It is the place where people come to learn about and appreciate this singular animal,’ the site claims. Some special events include Dog of the Week, and the museum hosts authors for discussions and book launches. Some of the fun activities and interactive games at the museum include finding out which breed you would be if you were a dog. One exhibition features fossils of modern canines’ relatives that date back 30-million years ago. Painting by Donald Grant. Museum of the Dog was relocated from the state of Missouri back to mid-town Manhattan in New York where the first museum was 30 years ago. The organisation moved into the same building as the American Kennel Club, and had access to its archives, library and collections. Tickets are priced from $5 (R72) for children and up to $15 (R216) for adults.
