Located in Colombia, in the Serrania de la Macarena province of Meta, Caño Cristales is a fast-flowing river with several rapids and waterfalls. Throughout the year it looks like any other body of water, but for a brief period of time from September through to November (between the wet and dry season), it transforms into the most spectacular biological wonder. When the plant blossoms, it turns brilliant red and is offset by bursts of green and yellow sand, pure blue water, and a thousand shades in between. The tableland is home to 420 species of birds, 10 species of amphibians, 43 species of reptiles, and 69 primate species. The river also has interesting rock formations, natural swimming pools and several waterfalls. View this post on Instagram Kano Kristales çayı. Çayın eni 20 metr, uzunluğu isə 100 kilometrdir. Kano Kristales çayı yaxınlarında çay yoxdur, bu səbəblə çayı görmək arzusunda olan turistlər atlarla təmin olunur. #colombia #canocristales #cañocristales #sierradelamacarena A post shared by 🌍🌎🌏 (@planetimizin_menzeresi) on Feb 22, 2019 at 11:00pm PST The area was off-limits to tourists due to guerrilla activity. There was also concern about the environmental impact of tourists on the area. However, it was reopened to tourists in 2009. The river is very remote and not easily accessed. Tourists looking for adventure in the area fly to the town of La Macarena close by and hike or make their way on horseback to the picture-perfect location. Cooking and camping is not allowed, and swimming is only permitted in designated areas. It’s also important to note that sunscreen cannot be worn while swimming here due to the fragile eco-system.
