Composition is an important aspect that should be always considered and there are a number of related guidelines. Below, you can find the major rules of composition in photography and the ways to embrace them. 1. The rule of thirds This is a helpful rule for beginning photographers. It requires superposing an imaginary grid onto their camera screen and placing all important objects along the lines. This helps make an image more appealing visually. 2. The golden ratio This is a classical rule going back to Leonardo da Vinci’s works. It is used in many domains, not just in arts. In contrast to the previous guideline, it requires shifting the focus more towards the center of your photo. 3. Leading lines Using lines and the structure of natural landscapes is a powerful tool. It helps control where a viewer’s sight is directed to. 4. Diagonals Diagonal lines are often used by photographers to add the movement effect to a still picture when it is necessary to stress dynamics. 5. Framing It is a common knowledge that a properly selected frame can boost the viewer experience. Such natural frames as doors or windows can serve the same purpose. So don’t miss out on an opportunity to take advantage of them when shooting. 6. A subject against a background Another good method to use is making the main subject stand out against the picture’s background. This kind of contrast helps to highlight the person or element you want to focus a viewer’s attention on. Consider using a galaxy background to download and achieve the necessary contrast. These are the main guidelines to keep in mind when it comes to the composition in photography. Breaking the rules is sometimes a sign of extra creativity. Develop your own style and approach to be competitive. Still, the above basics should be mastered first.
