Packing for a purpose

Posted on 30 October 2018

A holiday makes us feel good – as does doing a good deed. Why not combine the two on your next trip by getting involved with Pack for a Purpose? This initiative encourages tourists to save a little space in their luggage for much-needed supplies for charitable projects in destinations around the world.

Pack for a Purpose makes it easy for travellers to impact local communities in a positive manner on their visits, with contributions of either school or medical supplies. This is one way all tourists can create a lasting impact on the lives of those living in the local area.

Here’s how you can get involved

Visit the Pack for a Purpose website and select the country that you’ll be visiting. Pack for a Purpose displays a number of charities in need and list the supplies that will help make a difference. You can choose whichever items you would like to take along. Once you arrive, you can leave the supplies at various affiliated accommodation spots or tour companies and the supplies will be delivered to the project.

In South Africa, Mont Rochelle in Franschhoek has now joined Pack for a Purpose. General Manager at Mont Rochelle James Basson, said; ‘The local community has always been incredibly important to us at Mont Rochelle so we are thrilled to now be a part of the Pack for a Purpose initiative. Through packing or purchasing much-needed supplies, our guests have a chance to make a real difference to the lives of local people in the Franschhoek area. We see our partnership with Pack for a Purpose and FRANCO as just one step along our sustainability journey, and are looking forward to finding even more ways to support the community in 2019.’
