South Africa’s snow snapshots Posted on 10 August 2018 The Western and Northern Cape experienced light snowfall at the start of the week but it was loclas in Lesotho, the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal midlands that woke up on Thursday morning to find their cars snowed in, doors frozen shut and waterfalls iced over. I wish I had woken up in the mountains this morning ☃️ #sanipass #underberg #oursecondhome A post shared by Simone Parsons (@simoneparsons_) on Aug 9, 2018 at 11:22pm PDT Snow Report SA says more snow is expected across the Drakensberg from the north to the south, mainly on the Lesotho side, with some flurries possible in the southern KZN areas north of Kokstad and around Matatiele in the Eastern Cape. “It is possible that these falls could extend into places in the KZN Midlands, but it is too early to be sure about this. The Eastern Cape Drakensberg should also have snow by this time. All of these areas have the potential to keep snowing,” a post on their Facebook site noted. Areas like Lesotho in the Maluti Mountains (Afriski area), Barkley East, Lady Grey, Hogsback, the Amatola Mountains and possibly even as far inland as the Sneeuberge outside Graaff-Reinet, will be covered in snow today. South African Weather Service warned of extreme conditions, including heavy rainfall along the coast between Cannon Rocks and Kei Mouth of the Eastern Cape – as well as disruptive snowfall over the southern Drakensberg, Sneeuberg and Winterberg in the Eastern Cape.
