Warm yourself from your belly to your bones with some hearty fair, in Cape Town, this winter. From eateries with sea views and muted colours to cosy home-like restaurants, here are some winter specials on offer this season.

1. Aubergine Bistro

The Aubergine Bistro has a warm and cosy ambience with views of Table Mountain as you enter the restaurant. The house now converted to a restaurant dates back as far as 1830 and the former house belonged to the first Chief Justice of Cape Town, Sir John Wylde.

The restaurant invites you to keep your bellies full and satisfied with their Winter special meals varying from pastas, to meat dishes (duck, springbok, pork, beef) and an array of desserts such as pumpkin souffle, roasted plum, thyme and almond streusel with pomegranate and yoghurt-ginger sorbet. Bookings are required.

2. Harbour House

Harbour House is one of Cape Town’s oldest restaurants, based in the oldest wine producing region in Africa. Indulge yourself in beetroot carpaccio, fish cakes, beef short rib and sirloin. The winter special is available at all locations (Kalk Bay and the V&A Waterfront too) until 15 May 2018.

3. The Bungalow Restaurant

While The Bungalow may be known for a relaxed cocktail in hand and summer feel, this Winter the restaurant wants to ensure you are well nourished and your belly is happy. Their winter special menu comprising of Thai green curry, lamb curry, fillet pasta, mussels and more. Special is valid until the 30 August 2018.

4. Dalliance Restaurant

Based at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town, the Dalliance Restaurant serves Belgian mussels, butternut gnocchi, slow-braised rib eye, grilled hake and chicken, bacon and mushroom pie this winter. The urban eatery is modern and chic with views of both the stadium and the sea. The special is valid until the 30 August 2018.

5. Firefish Restaurant

Enjoy dinner overlooking the harbour at Firefish Restaurant, where the decor is neutral and stylish. On your plate, you have the option of pork cheek, chicken yakitori or Malaysian fish curry. This special runs until the 30 August 2018.

6. UMI Restaurant

UMI is a modern Japanese restaurant that brings some Asian flair to the Camps Bay strip. The menu option consists of octopus carpaccio, salt and pepper chilli squid, braised sweet and sour short rib. Book a table to enjoy the special, valid until 30 August 2018.

7. Foxcroft

Foxcroft Restaurant is in charming Constantia. The elegant yet casual restaurant is hosting a winter special on weekends only. You may choose between two and four tapas. The menu ranges from Foxcroft oysters, seared tuna tataki, turnip gratin, honey glazed figs, mushroom. The special will run until 31 July 2018. Bookings are recommended.

Feel as though you are in Bilboa in northern Spain, when indeed you are in Cape Town. Winter in Cape Town, isn’t so bad when you have comfort food to keep you company. Bilboa Restaurant in Camps Bay has winter specials varying from baby squid, lamb gozleme and even falafels. This special ends on the 30 August 2018.

Paranga Restaurant in Camps Bay offers a diverse menu of seafood, vegetarian friendly options, vegan options and even gluten free meals. Bask in the winter special this month, while overlooking the beach. The special includes beef carpaccio, grilled swordfish and mushroom orzo. You can enjoy this special until the 30 August 2018.

10. Blanko Restaurant

Everyone knows Italian’s are passionate about their food. Visit Blanko Restaurant in the Alphen Hotel in Constantia this winter for delightful Italian cuisine. Enjoy a meal in the all white gallery space with ambient lighting. Available on the special menu is spinach and ricotta gnocchi, fried calamari and also beetroot and goats cheese ravioli. The special runs until the 30 August 2018.

11. Zenzero Restaurant

Zesty and feisty are a few ways one would describe the Zenzero menu. This winter, the restaurant presents you with a spicy and fresh, full of flavour menu made of calamari, grilled catch of the day and aged sirlion as part of their winter special. The special is available until the 30 August 2018.

12. Lily’s Restaurant

Lily’s Restaurant in Moulie Point with the Atlantic Ocean as a backdrop. Besides the seaside setting and avid joggers you will find running past the lighthouse, this winter, you can enjoy a meal for as little as R95. Other options are salt and pepper whitebait, crispy tofu poké bowl, bang bang shrimp cocktail. The special runs until the 30 August 2018.

Kyoto in Gardens has fresh Winter Japanese experience, that is suitable for every palate. A menu with a combination of unusual ingredients from around the world has been crafted. Some of the meals, you can expect find on the menu include miso soup, vegetable tempura, duck noodle dish to name a few. Leave room for dessert and of course, the Japanese whiskey The special is currently on, until the 30 August 2018.

14. La Tête Restaurant

La Tête Restaurant on Cape Town’s buzzing Bree Street is also offering a special this winter. Every Wednesday, La Tete customers receive a free glass of wine with their winter special meal with an interesting wine list. The dinner served will consist of three dishes every Tuesday to Sunday until the 31 August 2018.
