November 2014 Masterclass Competition finalists

Posted on 20 October 2014

In the Masterclass section of Getaway’s November magazine, you’ll find a feature called ‘In the Bag’. We interviewed three top photographers in different genres to get a feel for how they transport their gear and how you can learn from it (read the interviews here). We also ran a photographic competition with Lowepro who generously sponsored a Pro Roller x200 worth R6 095 for the winning image.

We received many entries: some made us laugh, and some – with the sheer amount of gear packed into small spaces – were downright impressive. The winning image was by Stuart Bowie, who swayed us with his plea for a bag that can carry it all – even his Canon 300mm f/2.8 (nice lens!). Luckily for him, this problem is right up the Lowepro ProRoller’s alley.  We hope to see Stuart united with his new bag, 300mm lens in tow, and headed off on his next photographic adventure soon.

“I Need” by Stuart Bowie.
‘My image shows why I need a new camera bag. Even though it has a dedicated case, I would love to be able to carry my Canon 300 F/2.8 with all of my gear. This was taken with my Canon 50D, which there was no space for either’. Luckily for Stuart, with the Lowepro Roller x200 he will have ample room.

Stuart wins a Lowepro Roller x200 for his submission.

“Making many memories with just one bag” by Ashley Ebelthite.
Have many memories packed into just one bag. It’s seen many places and travelled countless kilometres. It’s getting tired now, but keeps on going. I hope to make many more memories while protecting my gear.

Dumont, Amanda photo.jpg

“Packed like Sardines” by Amanda Dumont.
Packed like sardines are the following: 7D Camera, 550D Camera, 100-400 Lens, 55-250 Lens, 50mm Lens, another lens, 2x batteries, Canon Flash, hahnel shutter release.

Warren Prior _MG_3378.JPG

“Hiking with gear” by Warren Prior.
“I love hiking in the Drakensberg, but battle to compromise on gear and therefore end up carrying far too much in case I ever need it. This photo was taken on a short hike at Lotheni, shortly after acquiring a bag that allowed me to carry and access my gear far more easily. Now I wonder if that 100-400mm lens really was necessary?”
