The mother of all maps – Mapstudio's Book of the Road Posted on 2 May 2013 The Book of the Road hasn’t been dubbed the South African motoring bible for nothing. Book of the Road It’s the most detailed creation ever produced by MapStudio and should be living under your car seat as the ultimate road companion. The Book of the Road is straightforward, offers detailed distance markers and comes complete with multiple points of interest, which are also indexed for the militant sightseer. There are 208 comprehensive street guides covering all major cities and several smaller ones (it doesn’t include Nieu Bethesda, but it does feature Vanrhynsdorp, if that’s any indication). The strip maps at the back are a useful addition as they plot consecutive towns and distances along common routes. Book of the Road Costs R220. MapStudio, tel 0860-105-050, www.mapstudio.co.za. If money is tight, the MapStudio South Africa Road Atlas costs R79,95 and is also reliable, but not as finely detailed.
