Getaway editor causes chaos with coffee Posted on 14 June 2013 I love readers with a sense of humour. About a week ago our subscription team sent this mailer out to subscribers who hadn’t renewed their previous subscriptions (it’s a tough world out there in print media, ya know). I thought the letter was quite cute. One recipient, Derek Puffett, saw it as the opportunity to let us know that yes, in fact it was us who spilt coffee on him during his flight to Joburg. My money’s on our magazine ed, Cameron Ewart-Smith, as the mystery caffeine caster. When he gets talking, the arms get waving (regardless of what’s in them). If you’re in the danger zone – an approximate three-metre radius – you’re going to take some collateral. Anyway, Derek responded to our email with the following: ‘Actually yes, it was you who gave me a bad experience in that flight – and I have a video to prove it. See attached clip. If you want to discuss it, please give me a call.’ Regards, Derek He attached the following video: Touché Derek. Well played. Oh, and if you’re wondering if he re-subscribed, he did. If you want to subscribe to Getaway magazine, visit the Getaway magazine subscriptions page (we’re giving away free digital subscriptions to print subscribers) and we’ll make sure Cameron keeps it together on his next flight to Joburg … so you don’t have to use the emergency exit at 35 000 feet.
