Taste of Cape Town 2013 preview Posted on 10 April 2013 Tags:Cape Town Foodies, delight! The Cape Town leg of the international “Taste” celebrations is here! For the sixth time, the Green Point Cricket Club will explode with flavours and smells as top South African chefs gather to show off what they do best. Amazingly, the entry price hasn’t changed since the first event, but that doesn’t mean that it’s behind the times: this year, a Taste app is being introduced. I’ve downloaded it in advance (it should be available on your device’s app store under “Pick n Pay Taste Fest”) and it’s adding even more fuel to my food-obsessed fire. There’s a complete list of all the cooking demos and workshops you can attend for each day, as well as bios of all the chefs and their restaurants. If you’re in need of any convincing about the quality of the food, check out the Taste of Cape Town Guide Menu for the most tantalising words you’re likely to read this week: 24-hour braised lamb breast, lemongrass gnocchi, parmesan and chorizo risotto, and venison and wild rosemary shepherd’s pie all make an appearance. (There’s no shame in Googling some of the more gourmet terms on the list: caramelia cremeux, anyone?) It's not burnt; it's my flambé! You can also look forward to a different sort of tasting experience: the one that comes in a glass. The Taste Craft Beer Project will be showcasing more than 18 South African craft beers on tap, and the wineries will be out in full force. There will also be a Food Market, where you can source some delicious artisan products for your larder. I’d best stop writing before I mention the fresh, hand-made Lindor truffles, otherwise there won’t be any left for me! Oops.
