Fly 540 Africa brings budget flights to West Africa (starting at $20)

Posted on 4 March 2013

Air travel in Africa is known to be expensive, and many affordable airline companies have come and gone and failed to lift off. But few of these have focused on West Africa. Fly 540 Africa aims to be the first to bring truly cheap flights to the continent, starting from as little as $20.

The airline is still in its developmental stages, but the local flights within Ghana and Angola are operating smoothly and can be booked online on their website. These flights are priced between $20 and $100 for a one-way ticket, depending on the day of travel.

The airline also offers three flights a week from Accra in Ghana to Freetown in Sierra Leone and promises more flights to The Ivory Coast, Liberia, Nigeria, Togo, and Burkina Faso. The website says that these flights would have commenced near the end of 2012 though. You can visit their news page for updates.

Environment

In order to show the environment some respect, Fly 540 Africa operates with a fleet of fuel efficient aircraft including the modern ATR turbo-prop as well as CRJ-100/200 jet aircraft. These aircraft use about 50% less fuel than other types of aircraft, helping them to keep our carbon footprint to a minimum.
