A bird’s eye view of Mauritius

Posted on 13 February 2013

Long sandy, white beaches, loads of sports activities and beautiful hotels grace the soft sand of the east coast of Mauritius. Who wouldn’t want to see that from the air?

For anybody thinking of taking a scenic flight over an island, I strongly recommend it. Seeing everything from the air gives you a whole new perspective and appreciation for the sea. I was lucky enough to board an Air Mauritius helicopter and took to the skies for some photography from above. The longest and largest lagoon of Mauritius starts at the very South-East point of Pointe D’Esny and stretches on for 22kms up the East coast, to Trou-d’Eau-Douce. From the North of Trou-d’Eau-Douce, stretches the lagoon of Palmar / Belle mare which is where Ambre resort (shown above) lies. In most places along the east coast are lagoons like these which are shallow with deep canals, generating hundreds of different greens and blues creating the eye candy which I saw that day.

If turquoise colours, bountiful marine life and sun and sand were my view on the way to work, give me feathers and a beak any time.

Ile Aux Cerfs (an island on the east coast) is famous for its sandy beaches, beautiful lagoon and great selection of water sports on the island.

Snorkelling anyone?

Le Tousserok's famous beach and bay.

The locals take advantage of the many rock pools on the coast.

One of the most famous hotels on the island, the fabulous Le Tousserok.

A 700m section of white beach lies in front of Ambre resort.

A lonely fishing boat floats gently in the waves.
