The Bloemfontein Boeremark Posted on 12 September 2011 Tags:bloemfontein Being Taiwanese, we have two main festivities, our New Year and the Mid-Autumn Festival (also known as the Moon Festival). So this weekend my sister, Jasmine, and I came back home to Bloemfontein to celebrate the Mid-Autumn festival with our family. When in Bloem, one of the things most of the locals partake in, is the Boeremark. For my short visit back, my mum, Jasmine and I made a mission to the Boeremark, a weekly open air market on a field in Langenhoven Park. Every time I go, the market never fails to overwhelm me with the intense variety of “stuff” you can find. That’s right, I said “stuff” You can find everything from toys to pancakes, boerewors rolls, sosaties, Barbie and Ken clothing, framework, flowers, herbs, second hand books, fresh vegetables, preserves, eggs, and dog tags… the list seems endless. Fortunately, right by the first entrance you also have the option of hiring a pulley trolley for R10 making it easier for those who come by to buy, rather than to browse. The Bloemfontein Boeremark is open every Saturday from 06:00 am to 12:00 pm at Bankovs Boulevard, Langenhoven Park, Bloemfontein. The highlights include being able to find old-school and vintage items at very low prices, braai meat around every corner, Afrikaans treats like small milk tarts and vetkoek, and beautifully made authentic leather bags. With the inflatable balloon bouncers for kids, sitting areas in the shade and more “stuff” than you can imagine, the Bloemfontein Boeremark is definitely a family orientated market.
