Put Foot Rally day 17: Swaziland – Finish Line Posted on 9 July 2011 Tags:Maputo, Swaziland Day 17: 8 July Swaziland -Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary, Restcamp The last day. The last checkpoint. The last 420-km stretch. We left Xai Xai at 06h30. I can say I’ve been to Xai Xai but I arrived in the dark and left in the dark – I have no idea what it looks like. All I know is that’s it’s by the sea because I could hear the waves while we sat around our tailgate getting fed delish egg and bacon rolls by the #shoesonfeet team. We drove through Maputo and into Swaziland through the Namaacha border. We arrived at the finish line in the afternoon – our first checkpoint on the entire trip where we arrived while the sun was still shining. We upgraded to a fancy beehive room that was super affordable (and had one mean shower) and geared up for one last Put Foot Rally party. The team at Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary had gone out of their way for the Put Foot teams. We were given special rates if we wanted to upgrade and they set up the most incredible boma dinner for one last night of awesomeness. Swazi dancers entertained us around the campfire and a local chap set up his gig on the stage and made sure we jammed all night. There are few words to describe how epic this trip was, the camaraderie that was felt between teams and the bonds and friendships formed.
