Put Foot Rally day 16: Inhambane and Xai Xai Posted on 8 July 2011 Tags:Mozambique, Swaziland Day 16: 7 July Mozambique -Xai Xai, Xai Xai campsite We left Inhambane relatively early. The wind picked up and most of the teams made tracks – only two days to make it all the way down to Swaziland! It’s only a three hour trip on the EN1 from Inhambane to Xai Xai so we took it easy. The Horizon Seekers team recommended a pizza restaurant on the road from Barra to Inhambane. An elderly Italian man had moved to Mozambique years ago and had taught the locals how to make genuine Italian food. It took a while but the wait was definitely worth it. A fabulously fresh pizza with possibly the best base we’d ever tasted! I love finding little unexpected gems – definitely worth keeping an eye out for it. I bargained for a fish and a fruit bowl on the side of the road and then we were on our way. We met up with our friends, the #shoesonfeet crew, whom had now nicknamed me “˜Steve’ as I was thick into the convoy of smelly boys. We pulled into Xai Xai after dark and bargained for a room. Three people in an en suite room for R250! Bargain! Except you get what you pay for – slightly dodgy accommodation (someone mentioned that it was -4 star) but it was a bed to sleep on and we had another early rise and another long drive to the finish line in Swaziland.
