A Friday night flight to the Blue Bird Garage Market in Muizenberg Posted on 5 May 2011 If you’re looking for something different to do on a Friday night between 4pm and 10pm then take a trip to the Blue Bird Garage Market in Muizenberg – you won’t regret it! Being relatively new, the Blue Bird Garage Market still gives off a fresh, funky, “˜je ne c’est quoi’ feel. Situated at 39 Albertyn Road, across from the False Bay Metrorail station, the Blue Bird Market is an all-ages event that’s not to be missed. From the moment you walk into the old building, your senses are inundated by tantalizing aromas, colourful stalls and joyful chatter. Striped awnings, dated lettering, and individual chalk boards advertising “˜what’s for dinner’ adorn the walls. Surfboards, birdcages, coffee sacs, interesting light fixtures, and lemon filled chandeliers hang from an intricate latticed wooden ceiling. Stepping further inside, you quickly become aware of how truly popular this event has become. The middle section is filled with jovial patrons from all walks of life, chatting with their friends and enjoying some local food. If you join the path of guests eagerly making their way from stall to stall you’ll find an array of interesting crafts and decadent treats for sale. Those that go there to shop will find everything there from The Little Hattery’s playful top hats, to handmade jewellery by Natasha Wood. Those that go to eat will have their choice of curry, burgers, wraps, gourmet pizza, artisan breads and some seriously sinful cakes and goodies. There’s even the option to sit back and enjoy a nice cold local beer, a glass of wine, or a steaming hot cup of coffee from Kitch Kombuis. On our visit, my boyfriend and I shared a delicious tangy chicken wrap from Seguemagne, Darling beer, and a chocolate Guinness cake – yummy! Despite all of the delicious food and fun stuff for sale, perhaps the best thing about the Blue Bird Garage is the vibe. Completely lacking in pretentiousness, there is a welcoming feeling about the place that’s evident straight away. The organisers have also provided a lovely play area for those of us with kids. It’s wonderful to find a trendy place where children of all ages are welcome, and where parents can feel free to enjoy a bit of deserved personal time as well. All in all this market is definitely something worth checking out! The Blue Bird Garage Market is open every Friday from 4pm to 10pm at 39 Albertyn Road in Muizenberg. www.bluebirdmarket.co.za Related Posts 11 alcohol-free drinks for the sober curious 26 May 2023 Ocsober and Dry January are all good and well, but how about a permanent shift... read more Show me the Honey: Beekeeping in KwaZulu Natal 15 May 2023 While Durban prepares for the buzz around its annual Durban July race, there’s another buzz... read more Mushroom foraging: 5 edible fungi in South Africa 4 May 2023 If you're keen for a trip and you're a fun guy (get it?), then mushroom... read more PREV ARTICLE NEXT ARTICLE
