Braai4Heritage tour: Day 12 – Potchefstroom

Posted on 25 March 2011

I won’t lie. The most interesting thing I’ve learnt about Potchefstroom today is that I can remember how to spell it by thinking “˜pot chef’, “˜in a stream.’

I’m not proud of this, but it’s been a bit of a mad rush trying to find a dealership in Pot-chef-stroom able to do a good sensor cleaning job on my camera. Dust seems to have worked its way in there and it’s not doing my photographs or my sanity any good at all. I did manage to get it partially cleaned, by the very helpful Johan at AJR Audio Visual in Mooirivier Mall, but looks like there are still some spots being picked up on the high f-stops so fingers crossed I can get it sorted in Pretoria tomorrow. It’s going to be a rushed day though, with a great braai lined up on Vilakazi Street in Soweto and of course, the Proteas’ Cricket World Cup quarter final game against New Zealand. Saturday morning may be a bit more realistic!

Jan has the gist of the day’s braai on www.braai.com which was held with students at The North-West University (NWU) campus here in Potchefstroom so for more information on the day’s events, head there for details.

Otherwise it’s been great to spend our first two consecutive nights in the same place so far this tour. I think everyone has been needing this chance to gather themselves together a bit, catch up with various bits and pieces, and, very importantly, do some laundry! Akkerlaan Guesthouse has been perfect for our needs and the staff have been very helpful and friendly. Plus, and trust me these things become very important as the days go by, I rate them as having the best shower of all the places we’ve stayed so far on this tour. Speaking of which…
